Preparing for a CT

How should I prepare for my CT scan?

Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing if you can, but if not, we’ll provide scrubs for your exam. Please remove jewelry, glasses, or anything metal before your scan.

If your CT includes contrast dye, an IV will be started, and we recommend being well hydrated before your appointment. Our staff will review all details with you when scheduling so you know exactly what to expect.

Can I eat or drink before my CT scan?

For most CT exams, you can eat and drink normally. If your scan requires special preparation, our team will share those instructions when you schedule.

What if my CT uses contrast dye?

If your provider ordered a CT with contrast, don’t worry, it’s a simple process. Contrast dye helps highlight certain organs, blood vessels, or tissues for clearer images. The dye is given through a quick IV injection, and our team will guide you every step of the way to make sure you’re comfortable.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

CT scanners are opened on both ends (more like a donut than a tunnel). Scans are quick with most only taking a few minutes. The scan is painless, and your technologist will stay in contact with you the entire time.

Will I feel anything during the scan?

The scan itself is completely painless. If your CT includes contrast dye, you may feel a brief warm sensation or metallic taste during the injection, that’s normal and fades quickly.

What happens after my CT scan?

Once your scan is complete, your images are reviewed by a board-certified radiologist. Results are usually ready within 1–2 business days and sent directly to your provider. You can also access your report and images through our secure patient portal, pick them up in our office, or request them by email.

Any post scan instructions will be given to you by our technologists.
